Report confirms Manchester United have made a move for experienced La Liga ace – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Manchester United have apparently made their move to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier.
According to the Guardian, Atletico Madrid have turned down the first official proposal from the Red Devils and they value the defender at £34.4 million.
Manchester United could certainly use more depth in the full-back positions and Trippier can play on both flanks. Furthermore, he is much more effective going forward as compared to Aaron Wan-Bssaka and he would probably be an instant starter at Old Trafford.
Trippier picked up six assists in La Liga this past season.
The 30-year-old helped Atletico Madrid win the Spanish league title this past season and he did reasonably well as a left-back during England’s opening Euro 2020 game against Croatia last Sunday.
SL View: United have other pressing concerns
The experienced England international has a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 2023 and they are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet.
It is clear that the Red Devils will have to pay the asking price if they want to bring trippier back to England this summer.
£34.4 million seems quite steep for a 30-year-old and United have to strengthen the other areas of their squad as well.
Bringing in a quality centre back to partner Harry Maguire and signing a top-class goalscorer should be the main priority for the Red Devils this summer.
