11 goals and 9 assists last season: Liverpool and Spurs ready to pay 24-yr-old’s release clause

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with quite a few players from the Italian league in recent weeks and it is understandable given the appointment of Fabio Paratici as the club’s new director.

The Londoners are now expected to appoint Paulo Fonseca as the club’s new manager and they could raid his former club Roma for the 24-year-old Italian midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are keen on signing the Italian international who has just one year left on his current contract.

Pellegrini is set to cost around €30 million because of a clause in his contract and the Premier League side are prepared to pay up. They will face competition from Liverpool who are willing to pay his release clause as well.

The Roma midfielder scored 11 goals this past season and provided nine assists across all competitions. He could prove to be the ideal addition to the Tottenham midfield next season.

The Londoners have two quality midfielders in Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele but they are desperately lacking in goals from the centre of the park.

Pellegrini would add goals and assists to the side and he could complete the Premier League side’s midfield unit.

The reported €30 million release clause seems quite reasonable for a player of his ability and Pellegrini should be able to justify the price tag once he has adapted to Premier League football.

Meanwhile, Liverpool need to bring in a quality replacement for Gini Wijnaldum and Pellegrini seems like an excellent fit in theory.

Both clubs would represent a good move for the player but the Reds will be able to offer him Champions League football.
