Newcastle United are thought to be keen on signing the Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby.

According to Spanish publication AS, the Premier League side have already made an enquiry for the Valencia defender.

Apparently Valencia are looking to cash in on the player this summer and the defender is also looking to sort out his long term future as soon as possible.

SL View: Could be a risk worth taking

The Magpies could definitely use some defensive reinforcements and the 24-year-old could prove to be a quality addition for them if he can iron out his inconsistencies.

The Frenchman is a reasonably good defender but he has been quite inconsistent for Valencia.

Steve Bruce will have to find a quality partner for Jamaal Lascelles and Diakhaby could be an option. The Frenchman was rated highly before his move to Spain and he could still develop into a reliable player.

The 24-year-old is yet to reach his peak and he could be worth signing if the asking price is reasonable. Diakhaby has a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 2023.

Apparently, Newcastle will face competition from Premier League rivals Leicester City. The Foxes could use more depth in the centre back department as well especially as a long term replacement for Jonny Evans.

If Diakhaby can add consistency to his game, he could prove to be a solid long term investment for either club. There is a lot of potential upside to the transfer.
