Report: PL rival eye move for in-demand Liverpool ace on loan this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Southampton are looking to bolster their defence this summer.
According to reports from The Hampshire Live, the Saints are looking to strengthen in four key areas this summer, and adding depth in the full-back areas is one of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s top priorities.
He has demanded the club provide him with more depth and quality ahead of the new season.
The report claims that Southampton are looking to bolster the left-back, right-back, wide-midfield and forward region in the summer transfer window, but the Saints are operating on a tight budget.
An expert from the article:
“Elsewhere, Saints are interested in a number of other full-back options with Hasenhuttl likely to use one of his two Premier League loan spots to provide Walker-Peters and Perraud, should Saints land him, with a backup option.”
And this is where Neco Williams comes into the picture.
Southampton are looking to sign versatile young full-backs, and have earmarked the likes of Brandon Williams (Manchester United) and Neco Williams (Liverpool) for this role.

The Saints previously attempted to sign Williams on loan in January, but Liverpool kept him as a backup option for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 2020-21 campaign was a productive season for the 20-year-old where he made 14 appearances across all competitions.
While he is a regular member of the Wales national team, he is yet to fully prove at Anfield, and doubts remain whether he has the ability to challenge Alexander-Arnold for the starting spot.
Liverpool Echo claimed last week that Burnley and Norwich are also interested in him along with Southampton. Cardiff and Swansea are also in the hunt for his signature on loan.
A loan move would be ideal for the youngster, but Liverpool could offload him permanently as well if they get a good value for him.
