Tottenham Hotspur are set to announce Paulo Fonseca as their manager this week, according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The erstwhile Roma boss is expected to sign his contract before the end of Wednesday after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy approved the decision.

The club’s new managing director Fabio Paratici was strongly keen on working with the Portuguese, and a deal now looks all but wrapped up.

Fonseca is replacing Jose Mourinho – the man who replaced him at Roma – and will be looking to hit the ground running next season.

Tottenham want to become a top-four side again after failing to qualify for the Champions League in the last two seasons, and whether the incoming boss is up to the task ahead remains to be seen.

The 48-year-old joined Roma from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2019, guiding them to fifth place in the Serie A table in his first season and seventh in 2020-21.

He won the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto and the Portuguese Cup with Braga, leaving to dominate Ukraine afterwards.

In his three seasons with Shakhtar, the incoming Spurs boss won the Ukrainian Premier League and Ukrainian Cup in each of the campaigns, winning the Ukrainian Super Cup in 2017 and emerging as the Ukrainian Premier League Best Coach the same year.

Could his good luck charm rub off on Tottenham?

The North Londoners are without silverware since the 2007-08 season, and Fonseca could establish himself as a Spurs legend if he helps end their trophy drought.
