Everton leading the chase for 25-yr-old defender with 13 goal contributions last season – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Everton have been linked with a move for the PSV Eindhoven right-back Denzel Dumfries in recent weeks.
According to the Italian newspaper Il Mattino (via Sportwitness), the Premier League side are now leading the chase to sign the 25-year-old defender.
Apparently, Italian outfit Napoli are keen on the player as well.
The Dutch international has had an impressive campaign with PSV and he will be focused on making his mark during the European Championships with his country now.
The 25-year-old full-back contributed four goals and nine assists in all competitions for PSV this past season.
Any transfer would probably have to wait until after the Euros.
PSV will be hoping that the defender can perform at a high level during the European Championships as it could inflate his transfer value. Dumfries has a contract with PSV until the summer of 2023.
Everton will have to find a quality long term replacement for Seamus Coleman and therefore the links with Dumfries are hardly surprising. The 25-year-old could replace the Everton star in the starting line-up next year.
That said, the Toffees are yet to appoint a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti and Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly close to taking over.
The 47-year-old Portuguese manager might have his own preferred targets and it remains to be seen how the situation with Dumfries unfolds over the coming weeks.
