Ipswich Town are interested in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, according to a report by TWTD.

The report added that the Tractor Boys are keen to lure the 22-year-old on loan while they aim to offload Tomas Holy and Dai Cornell.

The Republic of Ireland U-21 international has served as third-choice keeper for the Reds since breaking into the first team in 2019 but earned himself two Premier League appearances last season.

While he is still inexperienced, Kelleher did show that he has potential when playing in the English top-flight. All in all, he has made nine appearances, including two in the Premier League and two in the Champions League.

Kelleher’s experience of having already played at the highest level combined with his potential should make him an attractive option for many clubs.

Ipswich finished ninth in League One last season and there is little doubt that they will be aiming to challenge for Championship promotion next season.

A loan move for Kelleher would suit both the player and Liverpool. He is not a teenager anymore and does need to acquire more experience before he can truly challenge Alisson for the first-choice goalkeeping position at Anfield.

However, at this stage of his career, Kelleher’s development would be better served if he goes to a Championship club rather than to one in the third tier.

It now does look likely that Kelleher will leave Anfield on loan.

It was reported that the Reds were looking to extend the deal of their other goalkeeper, Adrian. It has since been confirmed that the 34-year-old keeper is among the club’s retained players for the 2021/22 season.
