AC Milan set sights on five Real Madrid players – originally posted on Sportslens.com
AC Milan have identified five Real Madrid outcasts as potential reinforcements for several areas of the squad as the clubs negotiate Brahim Diaz’s future.
Diaz has enjoyed a decent season-long loan at the San Siro, recording four goals and four assists in 27 Serie A appearances to help the Rossoneri clinch a long-awaited top-four finish in 2020/21.
The Spaniard’s blistering performances have convinced Paulo Maldini and co to extend the 21-year-old’s stay, with Milan currently trying to broker another loan deal with Madrid.
However, the extension of Diaz’s loan is not the only piece of business the Italians and Los Blancos could complete this summer.
According to Spanish publication AS, the seven-time European Cup winners have added four more Madridistats to their shopping list.
Dani Ceballos, who is set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu following a two-year loan at Arsenal, is the profile Stefano Pioli wants to have at his disposal next season.
The Spaniard has failed to live up to expectations in his second Premier League season after enjoying a solid first year in north London.
Ceballos is a similar type of player to Sandro Tonali. The 21-year-old has experienced an underwhelming first season at the San Siro despite carrying a reputation as one of Italy’s brightest young prospects.
Another name on Milan’s list Luka Jovic, the Serbian striker who spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Even though he showed flashes of his potential during a six-month stint in the Bundesliga, Jovic is unlikely to have a role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side next season.
Joining the 23-year-old forward on the way out of the Spanish capital could be out-of-favour striker Mariano Diaz.
The 27-year-old has barely featured for the 13-time Champions League winners since arriving from Lyon in 2018 and could be on the move when the transfer window reopens for business.
Milan are in the market for a back-up striker to provide cover to Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Swede extended his contract for another year.
The final name on the list is the underperforming right-back Alvaro Odriozola.
With Diogo Dalot likely to return to Manchester United when his loan deal expires, the Rossoneri are looking for a new right-back to challenge Davide Calabria for a place in the starting line-up.
After returning to the Champions League group stage following an eight-year absence, the Italian heavyweights are bracing themselves for a busy summer.
With Europe’s top club competition lustre back on the table, Milan’s chances of landing a couple of Madrid stars is not beyond the realm of possibility.
