Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum has decided to join Paris-Saint Germain in a deal that will run until 2024, according to reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Wijnaldum looked certain to join Barcelona as a free agent at the end of May (with Romano previously describing it as a ‘done deal’) after running down his contract with Liverpool at the end of last season and was even set to undergo medicals at the Camp Nou.

However, Romano has reported that French heavyweights PSG has hijacked the deal and will offer the Dutchman double the salary that the Blaugrana were planning to offer him.

Barcelona is looking to rebuild following several years of underachievement both domestically and in Europe. It will be a big blow to their short-term ambitions should they fail to sign the 30-year-old.

Due to the Spanish club’s problematic financial situation, they have been forced to look to the free-agent market, having so far brought in Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.

Romano also added that Barcelona has no intention to raise their bid which indicates the dire financial situation that they find themselves in.

PSG will be hoping that the potential addition of Wijnaldum could help them finally land the Champions League and also help them to reclaim the Ligue 1 title which was won by Lille last season.

Wijnaldum will certainly bring a winning mentality to the next club that he joins. He played a key role in the Liverpool team’s under Jurgen Klopp that won the 2019 Champions League and 2019/20 Premier League title.

In the absence of Virgil Van Dijk, he is also set to captain the Netherlands Euro 2020 squad which will be aiming to win the upcoming European Championships.
