Brighton are looking to sign the Independiente winger Alan Velasco this summer.

According to Football Insider, the South Coast club have had a bit rejected for the 18-year-old and they are preparing a new bid for the player now.

The report further states that Newcastle United are interested in the player as well but Brighton are hoping to steal a march on the magpies with their early move.

It will be interesting to see where the 18-year-old ends up this summer. The winger has one goal and two assists to his name in six Copa Sudamericana games this past season.

The Argentine can operate on both flanks but he is naturally a left-sided winger.

Velasco is highly rated in South America and he has the potential to develop into a quality player in future. Apparently, Brighton have had a £6m offer turned down for the player and it remains to be seen whether Independiente are willing to sell him for a reasonable price.

The 18-year-old is unproven at the highest level and paying big money for him would be a gamble at this stage. That said, he could prove to be a bargain in future if he manages to adapt to the Premier League.

Newcastle will have to make their move quickly if they want to sign the 18-year-old. The Magpies could certainly use more depth in the wide areas and the South American winger will add pace and unpredictability to their attack.

Similarly, Brighton struggled to score goals last season and the arrival of a quality attacker could make a big difference for them next season.
