West Ham keen on €12m-rated La Liga midfielder, but face competition from another PL club – originally posted on Sportslens.com
West Ham United are thought to be keen on signing the Osasuna midfielder Jon Moncayola.
According to Spanish publication AS, Crystal Palace are keen on signing the 23-year-old midfielder as well and he has a €12 million release clause in his contract.
Apparently, the Spanish club are willing to keep the 23-year-old at the club and they have offered him a new contract.
It remains to be seen whether the midfielder is keen on a move away from Spain this summer.
SL View: Long term replacement for Mark Noble?
The Hammers certainly need more depth in the central midfield and the 23-year-old Spaniard would be a quality long term addition. He could replace Mark Noble in the long run.
He has been a key player for Osasuna in the Spanish league this season and he has managed to chip in with two goals as well.
The 23-year-old is quite versatile and he can operate as a defensive midfielder as well as the right-back. His versatility could be very useful for David Moyes during rotation and injuries next season.
The reported asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his ability and potential. If Moncayola manages to adapt to the Premier League he could easily justify his price tag in the coming seasons.
Even if he fails to make his mark at the London club, the hammers should be able to recoup most of the €12 million asking price in future because of his age and potential resale value.
It seems like a no-risk signing for the Premier League side and it remains to be seen whether they can fend off the competition from Crystal Palace and secure his services in the coming weeks.
