Newcastle United are expected to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt defender Jetro Willems on a free transfer at the end of the season.

According to Bild, there could be a massive exodus at Eintracht Frankfurt this summer and Willems is one of the players likely to leave.

The 27-year-old was on loan at Newcastle last season but his stay at the club was cut short because of a major knee injury.

Prior to his injury blow, the Dutchman made quite an impact at Newcastle and he was admired by the fans. He managed to score two goals and provide three assists for the Magpies during his time at the club.

Signing him on a free transfer could prove to be a wise move for the Premier League club and it will be interesting to see he can regain his form and sharpness next season.

The 27-year-old has not played for around 18 months and he will need time to rebuild his match fitness.

Newcastle could definitely use some depth in the full-back positions and Willems could prove to be a useful signing for them in the long run. He knows the club and the league well and he should be able to adapt quickly.
