Rangers reportedly looking to pip EPL duo to NUFC winger Gerrard admires – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to The Sun, Rangers have declared an interest in Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy.
The Magpies want to hand the attacking midfielder a new deal, but Watford are looking to table a £6 million bid for him this summer as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.
Burnley and Southampton are also keeping tabs on Murphy, and it remains to be seen whether he will be keen to remain at St. James’ Park beyond this summer.
With the Light Blues preparing to defend their Premiership title next season and also mount strong challenges for the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup, their interest in Murphy could be revived in the coming weeks leading to the summer transfer window.
The Newcastle man has excelled in a wing-back role this term, weighing in with three goals and two assists in 26 appearances.
The Magpies have all but secured Premier League safety and Murphy has featured in their recent impressive run.
Should head coach Steve Bruce remain at SJP heading into next season, Murphy will likely be keen to sign an extension.
However, the arrival of new owners or a new manager could see him decide to leave.
Rangers will be playing Champions League football next term and will attract quality players as a result.
Murphy could be tempted to jump at a chance to play in Europe should the Premiership champions come knocking, and he will be a great addition to their attack given his quality.
In other news, Spurs reportedly have Rangers man on their radar.
