24-yr-old linked with a Liverpool move in January is hoping to join the Reds in summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Liverpool were linked with a move for the Croatian defender Duje Caleta-Car during the January transfer window.
According to reports, the Reds were very close to signing the 24-year-old centre back and the player even packed his bags and he was ready to fly to Liverpool.
However, the move fell through at the last minute and Caleta-Car ended up staying at Marseille. Liverpool signed Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke instead and the youngster has done reasonably well for the Reds so far.
According to Le10sport, the Croatian defender is now hoping that Liverpool reignite their interest in him and return with an offer in the summer.
SL View: Ideal fit for Klopp’s playing style
There is no doubt that the Reds need to improve their defensive options at the end of this season and Caleta-Car would be a quality addition in the long run.
Liverpool have been linked with the RB Leipzig centre back Ibrahima konate as well. It will be interesting to see who they end up signing.
Caleta-Car is an excellent passer from the back and he’s very good in the air. The Croatian is the type of defender Jurgen Klopp seems to prefer and it remains to be seen whether Marseille are willing to sell him for a reasonable price this summer.
He is also quick and would be a good fit for Liverpool’s high line.
The likes of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez might not be at their best when they return from their injuries next season. The same can be said about Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool must look to sign two quality centre backs in the summer and Caleta-Car would be a superb investment.
