Newcastle reportedly keen on 20-goal star, they have an advantage in transfer chase – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Newcastle United are thought to be keen on signing the Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong.
The 24-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Championship side this season and he has been linked with the likes of West Ham United and Southampton as well.
According to Team talk, Newcastle are keen on bringing the player back to the club and they have a massive advantage in the transfer pursuit.
Apparently, the Magpies inserted a 40% sell-on clause in his contract when Armstrong moved to Ewood Park in 2018 and therefore they can sign him for a knockdown price.
The Championship side value the 24-year-old striker highly and his suitors might have to pay around £16-20 million to sign him.
SL View: Much needed support for Wilson?
Considering his form this season, the reported fee could prove to be a bargain. Armstrong is only 24 and he is yet to reach his peak. He could get better with experience. Also, playing alongside Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson could help him improve further.
There is no doubt that Newcastle need to improve their attacking options at the end of this season and they cannot rely on Callum Wilson to carry their attack every week. The former Cherries striker is the only reliable goalscorer at the club.
Armstrong has 20 goals for Blackburn so far this season and he managed 17 goals last year. It is evident that he is a reliable goalscorer and he could make a big difference to the Newcastle attack next season.
The 24-year-old would certainly be an upgrade on Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Joelinton.
