Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett is being considered for an England call-up later this month.

According to Mirror, England manager Gareth Southgate is impressed with the left-back’s consistent performances so far this season.

The 25-year-old defender has helped Aston Villa keep 13 clean sheets so far and it will be interesting to see if he can hold down a starting berth with his national team now.

With the Euros just around the corner, this could be a great opportunity for Targett to impress the manager and cement his place in the England squad.

There is no doubt that the 25-year-old has the quality to play for England and he has already proven his worth at club level.

His club teammate Jack Grealish has made quite an impression since breaking into the England setup and Targett will be hoping to follow in his footsteps later this month.

Apparently, Southgate wants to play a back three with wingbacks this summer and Targett could prove to be a quality option in that case.

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell is another option for England but the Aston Villa defender has done better than the Chelsea player this season. Targett has also proven himself to be a better defender as compared to Chilwell.

Meanwhile, Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka could be an option for Southgate for the left-wing berth as well.

The youngster has been outstanding for Arsenal so far this season and he would certainly be much more effective than Targett and Chilwell going forward.

England take on the likes of San Marino, Albania and Poland in the World Cup qualifiers at the end of this month and Targett will be hoping to make his mark when he gets his chance.

Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter claiming that the defender deserves his chance with England and here is what they had to say.
